"Game Design Workshop" Reading Journal Week 12


Exercise

We actually decided to remove a lot of things we decided to do that seem distracting from the chicken herding theme of the game. For example, at the beginning we wanted the game to be like a dating simulator where you need to corner different kinds of birds and then talk to them to earn their heart. We discussed about what should be the one mechanic to focus and we decided to cut this part off and just do a game about chicken herding because it fits better with AR.

This week's reading talks about player's decision making which actually relates back to our decision of cutting off parts of the game. If we keep the dating sim part, players would need to do informed decision (maybe dramatic) when talking to birds and there's a high possibility for players to make uninformed decisions if they do not pay enough attention to the talking. If we cut this part off, players would only make immediate decision and weighted decision about which chicken to chase and which direction to move toward.
