"Game Design Workshop" Reading Journal Week 14
Exercise 10.1: Testing for Functionality
We did try to test our game with people who never played the game before and I realized that it was too hard for people to get chickens to the coop. Although they say that the main reason for it is probably the weird chicken behaviors (which I was still trying to fix during that time), after fixing the code I tried to lower the difficulty as well. I also adjusted the priority of chickens behaviors from "go away from the wall" > "escape player" > "wonder around" to be "escape player" > "go away from the wall" > "wonder around" and they said it makes more sense.
During the play-test, I find the chart of "What are you testing for?" to be very helpful because it helps me list out the important areas that I want to ask about and makes it easier for me to see the weakest part of the game and therefore focus on it more in future development.
